Hi, I’m Helen, originally from the UK, I now live in New Zealand. I love spending my days creating designs and patterns from my home studio overlooking Glover Park in St Heliers, Auckland.

I’ve always been creative as long as I can remember, as a child I could quite happily lose myself in a world of drawing and creating.  After college this naturally pointed me in the direction of art college where I did my foundation art course at Loughborough. It was my favourite year of study, with time to explore, we tried various arts throughout the year but as soon as we did a module on textile design I knew that was the one for me. I absolutely loved it.

I then continued at Loughborough Art College taking a BA course in Textile Design. First year of Art college was a time of experimenting with different medium and techniques but again I knew pretty quickly ‘printed’ textiles was for me. I loved the actual hands-on printing and then seeing your designs come to life on fabric. I gained a first class degree and was really proud of my final exhibition of printed, fused and heat pressed holographic fabrics that created their own forms. They were displayed at New Designers and later featured in 2 books, ‘Techno Textiles 1 & 2’.  I continued my studies at The University of Central England in Birmingham completing an MA in Printed Textiles.

After art college I worked freelance with a few design agencies in the US and UK including Johnson Studio, Design Direction, London Portfolio and Caine’s and Clark creating designs for fashion, home decor and giftware markets.

I emigrated to New Zealand with my husband in 2001 and have loved living in this beautiful country ever since. Being freelance it was an easy move to make and within a month of moving to the other side of the globe I was set back up and creating designs again. I took a break from freelance work to start our family in 2008.

I kept up with my creativity while my two children were small, firstly producing a range of New Zealand Bird Greetings cards. Then later designing and making a range of kids colouring cushions and toys. This was fun but my true passion is designing surface pattern prints, so I am back doing what I absolutely love. This website shows just a few samples of my work to give you a flavour of my design style. I am always updating my portfolio so please get in touch if there is anything you like the look of or for commissioned work.
